Catalogue Note

The design of the inlay on the current table derives from a design for detail on an inkstand by George Bullock and recorded in the Wilkinson Tracings in the Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery (unbound number 241) and which is reproduced in Clive Wainwright et al., George Bullock, Cabinet-maker, 1988, p. 89., fig 39 and also reproduced here.

A model of the above inkwell formed part of the extensive Bullock commission for Tew Park, Oxfordshire which included a substantial quantity of holly-inlaid furniture and sold Christie's house sale, 27-29 May 1987.
