Description

  • height: 5cm., 2in.
the ovoid body on a gold stand with three ball and claw feet, the neo-classical cagework mount applied with ribbon tied laurel garlands set with six sapphires, marked Fabergé with workmaster's initials and scratched inventory number 46379, 56 standard, the nephrite cup possibly associated

Condition

In overall good condition consistent with age and use. The cup fits snugly when twisted but we have allowed the possibility that it was associated.

Catalogue Note

Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich, later Alexander III, Emperor of Russia, was married to Princess Thyra's sister, born Princess Dagmar of Denmark. He regularly travelled to Denmark with his consort for family gatherings. The illustrated photograph, a record of one such visit, was taken in Copenhagen in 1893, the year this nephrite vase was purchased.
