A good and rare German Renaissance gilt brass quarter striking 'Turmchenuhr' with alarm

Description

  • 45cm. high.
6.5-cm engraved chapter ring callibrated I-XII and 13-24 with touching knobs and concentric alarm disc, subsidiary below with date, moonphase and day of the mooncycle, well foliate engraved surround, similar dial on the reverse with striking recording dials and enamel regulation dial, gilt brass posted movement, fusee going train converted to chaff-cutter escapement with brass balance and steel recoil spring, countwheel quarter striking on three bells, alarm on a single bell, case surmounted by a turned finial and onion domed cuppola above a three-tiered arcade containing the bells, with a ring of finials on each tier, the whole enclosed by a balustrade and turned corner finals, the central section with Doric pilasters flanking arched glass panels set in foliate engraved surrounds, moulded plinth with foliate scrolls and fruit, moulded ebonized base with key-drawer inscribed with ink Philip 4 Rue de la Paix 14 Frevier 1666 A.K., raised on bun feet 

Condition

dials in good condition, hands looking good but probably replaced, movement in working order and in good condition, probably first converted to pendulum and in the first half of the 19th century to chaff-cutter, hard to tell what wheel are restored and what not, replaced alarm, case in good condition, some parts regilt but well done, hammers restored, top plate regilt and now fixed with screws, the case further in showroom condition, base appears to have age and might well be period with small imperfection to one of the mouldings, together with a winder
