Condition

An enormous piece in good overall condition. There is an area above the left eye where the glaze adhered to the body and this has been partially coloured in black and is not very noticable. This overall area is approximately 3.5cm. long by 1.4cm. wide. There are several short firing flaws to the neck of the bird in particular a mark to the depression on the bird's chest, where the beak sits when the cover is placed. From this there is a faint haircrack which is approximately 4cm. long and this then forms a T-shape and the top of the 'T' is approximately 2cm. long. There is a small patch of overpainting close to the rim of the front of the neck, it is approximately 3cm. long by 1cm. wide and is not immediately obvious. There is a tiny chip to the rim of the cover which is less than 1cm. long and 2mm. wide. Overall there are some typical firing flaws including to the tail feathers where there is a flaw, approximately 8cm. long, only visible from the back and another between the toes of the right foot this is approximately 4cm. long. The ebonised base is rather worn. An exceptional example and probably the largest to come onto the market in recent years.
