Description

stoneware, the bird modelled with frowning expression and wearing a feathered wig, his feet overlapping, on ebonised wooden base

Condition

A large and well modelled example with fine details including an unusual net type impressed technique around the eyes. Some minor firing flaws visible to the interior of the head. And further very minor marks to the interior of the body. Two firing flaws visible on the base one immediately to the right of the left hand foot the other between the toes of the left. The base is fixed to the ebonised stand by two old and somewhat rusty screws. A large and unusual example of this rare model with painted details to the feathers of the bird's chest and an unusual palette including dark bluish green.
