Description

  • Kroniek paper size 40,6 x 29,5 cm, the other 36,7 x 27,5 cm, Venise Sauvée 45 x 28 cm
one as published in de Kroniek, one without surrounding tekst on wove, a caricature on a fiscal law by which one was charged according to the number of chimneys, the minister of finance depicted conducting a symphony of smoking chimneys, both signed in the plate, the supplement copy of the Kroniek printed by S. Lankhout & Co.



Venise Sauvée, a lithographed poster advertising a play by Thomas Otway enacted in Paris in 1895, allegorically depicting the story of the leading caracter of the play who was to be murdered by his loved one in order to save the town of Venice, in grey and black on a cream ground on wove, signed in reverse on the stone

Condition

Staatskas: De Kroniek, a small stain at the bottom of one of the chelli, a thin spot on lower border, two slight marginal tears and slight stains in upper left corner, part of the lower left margin missing. The other with two very slight restored marginal tears, otherwise in good condition. Venise Sauvée: Sealed in, a few restored tears and thin spots, for a poster on this material and of this age in good condition, paper possibly discoloured.
