Condition

This work is in very good condition. There is evidence of light wear around the lateral edges and extreme corners. There is a build-up of media with a slightly waxy appearance 4 in. from the bottom and 5 1/2 in from the right edge, which is inherent to the medium and noticeable only under raking light. Inspection under ultra violet light does not reveal any evidence of inpainting; however, a few pinpoint spots fluoresce located approximately 4 inches from the bottom and 6 inches from the left edge. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

"To take sweet images from childhood, even as children could draw them, and infuse them with so much sharp-edged adult apprehension is not an easy thing to achieve, but Nara does. The utter disproportion between subject matter and mood creates a disturbing effect. The combination, though, is oddly satisfying." - Kara Besher (http://www.assemblylanguage.com/reviews/Nara.html)
