Condition

This work is in very good condition. There is an a faint and unobtrusive diagonal line extending from the top left to the bottom right of the composition which is inherent to the original sheet, and presumably occurred in the original mounting process. Under ultra-violet inspection there is no evidence of inpainting. The four corners of the sheet are missing, not visible while the work is frame, and also original to the work as the paper was mounted by the artist. Framed.

Catalogue Note

The Women had to do with the female painted through all the ages, all those idols, and maybe I was stuck to a certain extent; I couldn't go on. It did one thing for me: it eliminated composition, arrangement, relationships, light-all this silly talk about line, color and form-because that was the thing I wanted to get hold of – Willem de Kooning
