Catalogue Note

Peintre néoclassique empreint de romantisme, Paillot de Montabert se spécialisa dans la peinture d'histoire et dans le portrait. Son plus célèbre tableau est le  portrait de Roustan (musée de l'armée, Paris), mameluk de Napoléon Ier. Ce tableau a été attribué au Baron Gros jusqu'en 1988, avant d'être identifié comme le portrait exposé par Paillot de Montabert au Salon de 1806.
