Condition

STRUCTURE: The canvas has a heavy relining; the structure is sound and secure. SURFACE: There are traces of dirt to the paint surface, some of which seems to be ingrained in the varnish. There are two lines of surface abrasion in the upper right corner. FRAME: This work is unframed. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT: UV light reveals extensive overpainting throughout the background upper right, another smaller area, upper left. Also retouching to frame abrasions along the upper and lower edges, to the table and spots of strengthening to to the figures. COLOUR COMPARISON: The illustration is broadly representative.
