Condition

STRUCTURE: Relined. SURFACE: Traces of craquelure appear in the sky and central group of horses. The paint surface appears stable and secure with an even varnish. This paintnig is clean. A minute surface abrasion appears in the sky in the upper left. UV LIGHT: Under UV, retouchings appear in areas to the left, right and upper edges where the canvas has rubbed against the frame. A few scattered spots of retouching appear in the sky and also areas of strengthening to the animals in the foreground, particularly to the central group of horses. The varnish prevents further reading in the sky. FRAME: Contained in a modern plaster gilt frame in fair condition. COLOUR COMPARISON: Less pink hues to the sky in the original work and darker tones in the foreground than the catalogue illustration suggests.
