Catalogue Note

Thomas Knarvik is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo, where he studied under Jan V. Sæther.  Knarvik's paintings navigate the visual terrain between figurative and abstract art.  The artist's interest in classical figuration, informed by time spent in Italy studying the techniques of the Old Masters, align him with Odd Nerdrum, the leading figurative artist in Norway, alongside whom he exhibited in 1996 and 1997.
