Condition

The actual painting is a bit softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has been relined. There's one tiny fleck of paint loss in the lower right edge. A horizontal seam can be seen running from the left to the right side in the upper half. The paint surface has grown a bit dry, which has resulted in a slight tendency towards cupping, e.g. in the dog's head and back. Discoloured retouchings can be seen to the middle background and in the clouds in the sky. The paint surface is under a very thick layer of varnish as well as surface dirt. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals additional scattered retouchings throughout, e.g. in the still life details to the foreground, as well as strenghtenings in the paws and tail of the dog. Offered in a simple gold painted wooded frame with a few chips to the lower right. (MW)
