Description

The articulated band decorated with panels of carved hardstone flowers, including coral, carnelian, chalcedony and malachite, against a lapis lazuli ground, within a border of single-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum, French assay mark.

Literature

David Bennett & Daniela Mascetti, Understanding Jewellery, p. 336, pl. 612.

Condition

There is a stamp of Gr and LT in a lozenge on one of the prongs on the clasp as well as a French assay mark. Diamonds are approximately H-J color and VS-SI clarity. A few of the carved stones appear to be cracked and/or repaired, but done expertly, and seem to be stable. In good condition, especially considering the age and the material. Beautiful detail in workmanship to the reverse of the bracelet.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Although unsigned, the present bracelet is illustrated in Art Deco Jewellery: 1920-1939, by Melissa Gabardi, p. 69, top, where it is attributed to Boucheron. Two corsage pins made by Boucheron for the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs of carved lapis, coral, onyx and jade, appear on the same page.
