Catalogue Note

This painting depicts the punishment of Cupid by Venus, his mother. She is taking his arrows away, in order to prevent him from causing more mischief.
This recently rediscovered painting was previously only known through B.L. Henriquez's 1778 engraving of the composition (see fig. 1).
