Catalogue Note

Cf. Jones, P. and S. Hemming (eds), Ngurunderi: An Aboriginal Dreaming, The Culture of the Ngarrindjeri People, South Australian Museum, Adelaide, 2000, p.28, for a similarly shaped club with areas of related designs.  The peoples of the Lower Murray River, lakes, and Coorong are renowned for the exceptional carving most commonly seen on their broad shields. It is probable that this early club is from south eastern South Australia.
