7-inch dial with rococo leaf and shell spandrels, matted centre with calendar aperture and shaped fielded plaque signed Thos.Carrington, London the arch with a strike/silent dial, similarly signed five pillar two train bell striking fusee movement with verge escapement, the backplate engraved in the rococo style, the broken-arch case with brass carrying handle and triple pad top, glazed sides and later ball feet; lacking apron from backcock
Catalogue Note
Thomas Carrington was apprenticed in 1740 and Free of the Clockmakers' Company from 1748; he worked in partnership with Thomas Gibbons at Bishopsgate, London until 1755 and then on his own until his death in 1793.
