Catalogue Note

Dreaming is believed to be a preparatory work for Sweet Dreams, auctioned in Amsterdam in 2000. While best known for her sentimental pictures of Victorian children, Anderson often painted adult figures in Grecian dress, as seen in this painting and in Birdsong which sold in these rooms on 3rd June 1998 (Lot 164). Dreaming displays Anderson's Pre-Raphaelite interest in botanical detail and careful attention to precisely rendered drapery.
