Literature

H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Vol. I, p. 49, figure 1.5.3, illustrates the original model for this clock barometer by Boulle with the dial signed Gaudron à Paris. Please also see the same publication, fig. 1.5.2. and 1. 5. 4, for other barometers by Boulle.

Catalogue Note

Six models of barometer can be attributed to André-Charles Boulle, see: Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. II, pp. 509. The original model of the present barometer, circa 1680-90, is in the Fondation Ephrussi de Rothschild at Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat.

Interestingly, the attribution to Boulle is further strengthened by the 1715 acte de délaissement to his four sons stating: "Quatre figures de Temps de ronde bosse pour des pandulles dont deux sont reparées et deux sortants de la fonte."  See Jean-Pierre Samoyault, André-Charles Boulle et sa Famillle, Genève, 1979, p. 72.
