of tapering baluster form, the central reserves with finely painted period scenes, one depicting a young beauty seated in a landscape with a shepherd and his flock in the background, the other depicting a woman mourning the loss of her pet bird, the violet bodies decorated with gilt friezes and bands of acanthus and palm leaves in relief, flared foot and rim, all flanked by scroll handles terminating in rams heads, partially restored, supported by finely moulded winged putti, both marked with blue Imperial cypher for Nicholas I
