Catalogue Note

Another version of the composition, signed and dated 1785, which was formerly in the Louis Deglatigny collection in Rouen, was engraved by Alexandre Chaponnier in 1786 with the title 'La servante officieuse' (see A. Girodie, Jean-Frédéric Schall, un peintre de Fêtes Galantes, Strasbourg 1927, reproduced plate XI).
