Catalogue Note
Although most of Giandomenico's drawings of Hercules and Antaeus are thought to come from a small album containing thirty-eight such sheets formerly in the Bordes collection (see note to lot 95), four others, including the present work, were in another album, dispersed at the Beauchamp sale in 1965. (See also the following lot.) James Byam Shaw associated the choice of theme with the decoration of the Tiepolo family villa at Zianigo and considered them late works by the artist.
