Catalogue Note

The design of this beautiful and elegant pair of vase candelabra is based on the model attributed to Francois Rémond (reçu maître en 1774). Two eighteenth century models of vase candelabra with female fauns figures are recorded. The first, without a frieze of playful putti, is in the Huntington Gallery, California, and in the Frick Collection, New York. The second, from which our present lot is clearly based, is further recorded in the Wallace Collection, London, and in the Mobiler National, Paris.

An identical pair of candelabra sold, Sotheby's, New York, June 15, 2005, lot 216.
