Catalogue Note
This is a replica of Lorenzo Bartolini's Nymph of the Arno made in 1816/7 and delivered to Charles March Philipps. A plaster is in the Galleria Communale, Palazzo Pretorio, Prato and there was a marble by Bartolini at Garendon Park, Leicestershire.
Annibale Fontana of Carrara does not appear to be recorded, but was presumably a member of the distinguished Fontana family of sculptors, which included Giovanni (1821-1893), Ferdinando (1798-1843), Pietro (1787-1858) and also Aristide (active mid-19th Century).
