Description

  • height 5 1/2 in. 14 cm
the rectangular clock enameled with alternating translucent royal blue and red stripes, over guilloché grounds, the racing colors of King Edward VII, the gold borders chased with leaf-tips on a matted ground separated by opalescent dots, applied with a later plaque inscribed, `S.M. La Reine Amélie au Maréchal Lyautey, Rabat, Mars 1924,'  with silver strut, marked with initials of workmaster, Fabergé in Cyrillic, 56 standard and 91 standard, also with scratched inventory number 19233.

Catalogue Note

Purchased in 1909 from Fabergé by Queen Alexandra presumably for a gift to King Edward VII, then later presented to Queen Amélie of Portugal (1865-1951) by either King Edward VII or King George V; later given by her in 1924, in accordance with the inscription, to Maréchal Louis Lyautey (1854-1934), Resident General of the French Moroccan Protectorate.
