Catalogue Note

Hodges visited Germany and Switzerland in 1771 or early 1772 and he exhibited four views from the trip in 1772. J.H. Mortimer and Thomas Jones described these pictures and another pair as 'well chosen, and much in the manner of Wilson'.

Palmerston was a patron of Hodges and obtained for him the post of draughtsman to Captain Cook's second expedition to the South Seas.
