moulded in relief with a wide border of acanthus leaves and fruit enclosing a central raised panel with clasped hands below a pierced heart and above flames,all picked out in ruby and gold lustre and painted in blue, the ribbed reverse painted with scrolls in red around a low foot with everted rim

Nuptial dishes of this type were used as engagement or wedding gifts. A large number were also produced in Faenza and Deruta. Similar examples have been sold in our these rooms, 5th July 1984, lot 152 and 17th March 1987, lot 30.
