Catalogue Note

A 17th-century derivation inspired by an often-repeated composition by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, of which one autograph version is in a private collection, Brussels, and another, by Jan Brueghel the Elder, is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (see K. Ertz, Pieter Brueghel der Jüngere, Lingen 2000, pp. 453-5 and 474-86 respectively).
