Catalogue Note

This scene appears to relate to the story of Saint Ildefonso (607-667), who was praying before the relics of the virgin martyr Leocadia when she arose from the tomb and commended him for his devotion to the Virgin Mary. On seeing this, the visigoth King Recesvinto tried to cut a piece from Leocadia's robe and later he was made Ildefonso Archbishop of Toledo.
