Catalogue Note

During the late 1830s Rugendas worked extensively on a series dedicated to Chilean "costumbrista" themes, recording costumes and customs throughout the country and publishing a small notebook with five lithographs entitled, Album de de Trajes Chilenos in 1838. Jinete Chileno is a closely observed painting of a galloping horseman from central Chile with the Cordillera de los Andes in the background.
