This January’s Evening Sale will feature an exciting array of works from the 14th to 19th centuries lead by masters such as Orazio Gentileschi and Pieter Brueghel the Younger. At the core of the sale is a group of seven paintings from a distinguished private collection including an elegant copper depicting a Banquet of the Gods by Joachim Anthonisz Wtewael and a remarkably well-preserved seascape by Jan van de Cappelle. Also highlighting the sale are stunning still lifes by Luis Meléndez and Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder, a compelling rediscovery by Jan Sanders van Hemessen, and an intimate portrait of Spanish actress, Rita Luna by Francisco José de Goya.
Headlining the Evening Sale section of The Female Triumphant—a curated auction event celebrating the skill, rarity, and perseverance of trailblazing female artists across the 16th – 19th centuries—are a fascinating large-scale portrait by Elisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun depicting Muhammad Dervish Khan, rare still lifes by Fede Galizia and Michaelina Wautier, Artemisia Gentileschi’s portrayal of Irene tending to Saint Sebastian, and an endearing group portrait of three children in a landscape, almost certainly the Spencer children, by Angelika Kauffmann.
