Sotheby’s upcoming Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale, including Works from the Collection of Joe R. and Teresa L. Long features a diverse selection of paintings, sculpture and works on paper which beautifully attests to the transformative vision of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century avant-garde.

The sale features over seventy works from the Collection of Joe R. and Teresa L. Long, a visionary couple who assembled an extraordinary Impressionist & Modern collection, with a particular taste for works by such Symbolist artists as Odilon Redon and Emile Bernard. Fresh-to-market property with distinguished provenance from other prominent collectors include Standards of Excellence: The Blema and H. Arnold Steinberg Collection,  The Gerald L. Lennard Foundation Collection and Property from Janet Traeger-Salz.

The sale also features a strong array of modern sculpture, including a bold example by Julio González and dynamic works by Marino Marini, Jean Arp and Jacques Lipchitz. Anchoring the sale’s Surrealist offerings is an ominous oil on canvas by Giorgio de Chirico, which perfectly captures the artist’s play on perspective.
