To celebrate Hong Kong Arts Month, Sotheby’s S|2 is excited to present the first major exhibition of Alex Katz in Hong Kong. Running from 15 March – 1 April, the eponymous exhibition will offer the iconic portraits and landscapes paintings by Alex Katz, one of the greatest living Contemporary artists in the United States.
Widely regarded as a realist artist, Katz established his career in New York in the 1950s as a reaction to the rise of Abstract Expressionism, and built his own artist identity with the simplest stylist elements – line and colour. He is best known for his dramatically cropped portraits and landscapes, use of blunt figuration, as well as bold and flat colour. Today, Katz’s works are held in major museums including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Tate Gallery, London; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, among others. There has also been an increasing interest in his paintings in the international auction market.
