Overview

Outside In: Journeys Through Art

In Conversation: Marc Steene Brings the Outside In

Discover the journey taken by award winning charity Outside in this ground-breaking exhibition opening at Sotheby’s London in January 2018.

‘Outside In: Journeys’ brings together a dynamic group of artists who have been involved in the Outside In journey. The exhibition features a diverse range of works; from James Lake’s life-size figure of a runner about to take off, made entirely of cardboard, to Rakibul Chowdhury’s energetic paintings combining everyday life with pop culture.

Founded in 2006 at Pallant House Gallery in West Sussex, Outside In became an independent charity in 2016 following a highly successful decade, and will join Arts Council England’s National Portfolio in 2018. Throughout its journey Outside In has provided a platform for those who define themselves as facing barriers to the art world whether due to health, disability, social circumstances or isolation. Its goal stands to create a fairer art world which rejects traditional values and institutional judgements about whose work can and should be displayed.

Outside In currently supports 2500 artists and continues to grow its reach through nationwide and international exhibitions, an active online community and professional training programmes.
