The nostalgic muse to Chinese people worldwide is returning to Sotheby's! From August 10 to 25, the “Old Master Q 2.0” selling exhibition will be on view at Sotheby’s SI2 Gallery with 113 original works from Alphonso Wong and his son Professor Joseph Wong. The first Old Master Q exhibition in 2014 was met with overwhelming enthusiasm with every work selling within days of opening. Four years later, we expect similar demand and excitement as this will be the final public exhibition for Alphonso Wong’s original drawings and the last opportunity to acquire them direct from his estate publicly. The exhibition includes original comic drawings by Alphonso Wong, as well as his son Professor Joseph Wong Chak’s “Implication” a series of acrylic paintings, paying homage to Alphonso.
“Old Master Q – Rock'n Roll”, the earliest comic cover artwork in existence, was sold at HK$650,000 at the online only auction earlier in August, exceeding 5 times of the low estimate and setting a new auction record for any Old Master Q original drawings. “Old Master Q – Rock'n Roll” was published in 1964 as the cover for the second issue of Old Master Q.
