Sotheby’s Books and Manuscripts department is delighted to invite participation in our inaugural online timed auction of Fine Books and Manuscripts, Including Americana. This sale brings together a diverse array of printed and manuscript material from artists and authors ranging from Albrecht Dürer to Tennessee Williams. The sale is highlighted by a fine selection of cartography from a distinguished private collection, and includes a second selection from the Sporting and Travel Library of Arnold “Jake” Johnson, including India, Africa and the Americas. Particular highlights include an extraordinary copy of History of the Expedition under the Command of Captains Lewis and Clark in the original printed boards, a first edition, first printing, first issue of Edgar Allen Poe’s Tales with the original wrappers, a presentation copy of Karl Marx’s Le Capital, and John Keats's copy of Butler's Hudibras, presented to his brother, George Keats.
Bidding will be open from June 18–28, and viewing is available – and encouraged – by appointment.
