Results: Sotheby’s auction of Prints & Multiples on 27-28 April achieved $10.1 million, making Sotheby’s the leader in this important collecting category. The sale was led by Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn) (F. & S. II23-31) from the collection of Margot Hahn, which sold for $1.1 million, the top price of the season in New York, as well as a rare complete portfolio of 0-9 (ULAE 19) by Jasper Johns, which achieved a record price for a suite of lithographs by the artist. This set of lithographs sold for $972,500, in excess of their $800,000 high estimate.
Auction Details: The Spring 2017 auction of Prints & Multiples will comprise a wide array of works from the early 20th century to the present day. We will offer material from The Jeffrey M. Kaplan Collection, including a Motherwell collage made from portions of multiple prints on an aquatint base and the largest group of Grosvenor School linocuts ever to appear on the market at one time. Amongst compositions by Cyril Power, Claude Flight and Lill Tschudi is Sybil Andrews’ brilliant image Concert Hall. An additional highlight is an important Jasper Johns portfolio from 1963, 0-9. It is very rare to find the set of ten complete and in such extraordinarily good condition.
