A collection cultivated over decades, ‘The Discerning Eye: Property from the Collection of Eric Franck’ offers a unique selection of photographs by the collector and dealer, Eric Franck. With an expert eye for the medium, Franck has built an impressive collection formed through his curatorial influence and connections to some of the most prominent photographers of the twentieth century.
The top lots of this sale include Henri Cartier-Bresson’s Barcelona, Spain 1933(£40,000-60,000) and Le DDT a Dessau, 1945 (£30,000-50,000), both of which are incredibly rare photographs from Cartier-Bresson’s scrapbook which he showed the curators at MoMA prior to his exhibition there in 1947. Works by Robert Capa and Josef Koudelka are also featured, among many other powerful and poignant photographs spanning the twentieth century. The diversity of Franck’s taste extends to some lesser known, yet equally significant works, such as photographs from the humanist Czech school.
A celebration of the medium, this sale offers work at a range of prices, all of which are testament to Eric Franck’s remarkable ability to curate a photographic collection.
