Overview

The 25 April Magnificent Jewels sale is a vibrant celebration perfect for springtime. Centering upon jewels with distinguished provenances, the sale is one that honors the most discerning collectors and the history of jewelry design.

The auction is highlighted by the over 34 carat Magnificent and Legendary Stotesbury Emerald, the whereabouts of which have been unknown since 1971. Currently mounted as a ring by Harry Winston, the hexagon-shaped Classic Colombian emerald was previously in the collections of three extraordinary American jewelry collectors: Evalyn Walsh McLean, Eva Stotesbury and May Bonfils Stanton. Also featured in the sale is an Art Deco sapphire and diamond brooch by Cartier, formerly in the collection of Mrs. John E. Rovensky. Mrs. Rovensky, formerly Mrs. Morton F. Plant, participated in one of the most iconic jewelry transactions of all time when Mr. Plant traded in his corner lot on Fifth Avenue for two strands of natural pearls from Cartier in 1917. Stationed on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street, the lot remains the New York base for the iconic jewelers. Three jewels by Cartier and Boucheron from the Collection of Frederica Vanderbilt Webb and a citrine suite by Sterlé formerly from the collection of Queen Narriman of Egypt are also amongst the many pieces in the sale with histories as glittering as the jewels themselves.

Important colored diamonds also headline the Magnificent Jewels sale, with stones in various hues of yellow, blue and green on offer. A ring set with a rare 1.64 carat Fancy Vivid Green diamond and a crossover ring set with two Fancy Vivid Blue diamonds are presented alongside an 11.19 carat Fancy Pink diamond pendant. Classic White diamonds in various shapes and sizes round out the sale, highlighted by an extraordinary pair of diamond earrings set with two square emerald-cut diamonds, both over 20 carats and classified as being D color, Internally Flawless, Type lla with Excellent Polish and Symmetry.

Rarity, whether in the provenance of a jewel or in the stones they are set with, is the common thread of the Magnificent Jewels auction. Let our team help you find a Magnificent Jewel that suits your collection and style, whether you are seeking to continue the legacy of a piece with a brilliant past or wish to write a story all your own.

Please note, viewing hours on 25 April are for Session 2 only.
