The auction achieved a total of £2,124,002 and was led by a magnificent 11 volume set of Blaeu’s Atlas Major (1662), which sold for an auction record £581,000. Other sale highlights included a deluxe hand-coloured copy of David Roberts's Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia (£118,750) and a splendid copy of Pierre Joseph Redouté's Choix des plus belles fleurs, (£137,000).

This sale offers magnificent works of natural history, maps and atlases, and books, drawings and photographs relating to exploration and travel. Of especial interest are books from the collection of the late Paul Fentener van Vlissingen, with beautifully illustrated natural history books by Buffon, Redouté and Weinmann, many in splendid bindings, as a well as a magnificent eleven-volume atlas by Dutch cartographer Joannes Blaeu. There is also a deluxe hand-coloured copy of David Roberts’s views of the Holy Land and Egypt, and other rare books and photographs relating to the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Australasia, Asia (notably Japan and China), and Polar exploration.
