Worlds will collide at Sotheby’s on 5 November when a Bolshevik-era revolutionary, a Parisian dandy, an erratic Dutchman and a young Spanish genius compete for your attention. Led by the empress of Picasso’s Blue Period, La Gommeuse, the auction includes the last of Kazimir Malevich’s great Suprematist paintings, as well as a sun-drenched boating scene by Gustave Caillebotte, and a spectacular 1908 Nymphéas by Claude Monet. Many of the evening’s highlights come to us from the Collection of Louis & Evelyn Franck, whose spectacular van Gogh landscape instantly transports viewers to the south of France. Other standouts include important works by Magritte, Bonnard, Léger and Pissarro, all on view in our York Avenue galleries.
