Twice a year, the Classical Chinese Paintings & Calligraphy department brings to market rare and outstanding artworks during Asia Week, affording our collectors a memorable art experience while assisting them in their collecting needs. This season we have put together a distinguished selection sourced from around the world. Highlights in the auction include an album by Zhang Ruitu (1570-1641 ) which contains portraits of the Eighteen Arhats paired with Tang dynasty poems, a handscroll in cursive script calligraphy by Wang Shouren (1472-1529) delivering an essay by Bao Zhao, a circular fan by Zhao Guangfu (10th/11th century) depicting fifty horses and with a title slip tracing its provenance to the exceptional Pang Yuanji collection, a running script calligraphy handscroll by Tang Yin (1470-1524) written at the ripe age of forty-nine sui. The sale is joined by modern paintings and calligraphy, a Fu Baoshi hanging scroll landscape Appreciating the Waterfall, a Zhang Daqian hanging scroll landscape Scholar Under Pine Tree, and many more vibrant works from prominent artists such as Pu Ru, Lu Yanshao, Qi Baishi.
