Sotheby’s 21 May sale of American Indian Art brought a strong total of $2,131,002, including buyer's premium, well within pre-sale expectation. A Classic Navajo Pictorial Man's Wearing Blanket, featured above, led the sale with a final price of $250,000, more than twice its high estimate.

Sotheby’s 21 May sale of American Indian Art is distinguished by the Charles and Sharon Aberle Collection which features early and exceptionally fine Navajo blankets. The sale also includes diverse works of Native art from the Great Lakes to the Northwest Coast and comprises basketry, pottery, carvings and jewelry. A sale highlight is the rare Ojibway figural pipe attributed to the master carver Pabahmesad. The pipe is considered an icon of American Indian Art.
