Our 3 November auction, Picasso Through the Eyes of a Connoisseur, achieved 4,667,628 USD. Highlighting the sale was Pablo Picasso's Portrait de Jeune Fille, D'apres Cranach le Jeune, II, which sold for 653,000 USD. Also performing strongly was the artist's Portrait de Femme au Champeau a Pompons et au Corsage Imprimé, which sold for 509,000 USD.
The collection began as a single purchase. One alluring linoleum cut of a woman’s head from 1962, Grande Tête de Femme, initiated an intense exploration of Pablo Picasso’s oeuvre. The challenge of building an expansive yet focused collection of the artist’s work was met with a tremendous appetite and energy befitting Picasso himself. Sotheby’s is privileged to be entrusted with the sale of this important collection, assembled by a connoisseur who has concentrated so discerningly on shaping this study of one artist’s considerable contributions to every medium he endeavored.
