Our highly-anticipated offering of works showcasing the rich diversity of Asian art across different periods and regions attracted hundreds of participants, resulting in numerous artist records. Among them is the top lot of the sale, Liu Xiaodong’s Disobeying the Ruleswhich fetched HK$66.2 million / US$8.49 million. Other record-breaking artists include Fang Lijun, Liu Wei, Jia Aili, Wang Xingwei, Chang Shuhong, Wang Guangle, Anita Magsaysay-Ho and Miguel Covarrubias.
Displaying an array of seminal works, this sale includes Debut d'octobre from Zao Wou-Ki’s Oracle Bone Period; Merry-go-round; Sun Bathers; Modern Apartment , a rare triptych by Chinese-American pioneer Yun Gee; Liu Wei’s We Love Nature, never before seen on the market; Yue Minjun’s large scale piece, Great Joy, painted at the height of the artist’s creative career and Chai-Yi Park by pioneer modernist Chen Cheng-Po. These works are joined by others from artists who have shaped Southeast Asian art, including Lee Man Fong’s Bali Life, Anita Magsaysay-Ho’s Catching Chickens and Street Vendors from Sudjana Kerton.
