Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale on 7 April 2014 achieved a total of HK$831.6 million/US$106.6 million. The top lot of the sale was The Hutton-Mdivani Necklace, which was acquired by the Cartier Collection. Eight bidders in the room and by phone competed for 20 minutes, driving the price past twice the estimate and achieving a World Auction Record for any Jadeite Jewellery and a Cartier Jewel at HK$214 million/US$27.44 million. Also, the 29.62-carat cushion-shaped oval Burmese Mogok ruby and diamond ring by Cartier, sold for HK$57.24 million/US$7.34 million, set a World Auction Record for a Ruby.

A highly splendorous jadeite bead necklace of important provenance takes centre stage in the upcoming April auction. Previously in the lavish collection of legendary heiress, socialite and philanthropist Ms. Barbara Hutton, this exceptional necklace will be offered alongside a superb collection of gemstones, each of exceedingly impressive size and finest quality in their respective categories, including an extremely rare 102.61-carat unheated sapphire, a charming Golconda diamond known as ‘The Maharaja’s Dream’, a magnificent 29.62-carat unheated Mogok Burmese ruby ring from Cartier, and a superb ruby and diamond necklace. The highly important jadeite collection also features various forms of jadeite including an exceptional jadeite bangle.
