Our 22 October auction of Important English and European Decorative Arts achieved 2,315,505 USD. Highlighting the sale was a Caucasian "Dragon" Carpet, which sold just under triple the high estimate for 149,000 USD. Also performing strongly was a David Roentgen 18th Century German Gilt-Bronze Mounted and Brass Inlaid Acajou Mouchete Metamorphic Table, which sold for 75,000 USD.
On 22 October 2014 Sotheby’s will offer a selection of important English and European furniture and decorations including a number of fine private collections such as the Estate of Andrew Gordon and a curated group of late Louis XVI furnishings from an important French collection. Highlights of the auction comprise a matched pair of very large German Rococo silvered mirrors, a fine George III Chinese black lacquer-mounted breakfront cabinet attributed to Thomas Chippendale and a Flemish tapestry depicting Perseus fighting Polydectes from the workshop of Jacob van der Goten.
