Our English Literature, History, Children’s Books & Illustrations achieved a total of £1,901,780. Among the top lots of the sale were a number of E.H. Shepard illustrations. Notable among these was an illustration of 'Poohsticks' from A.A. Milne's The House at Pooh Corner, which tripled its pre-sale estimate selling for £314,500. Other highlights included a notebook of poems by Dylan Thomas, which sold for £104,500 and Oliver Cromwell's copper gilt coffin plate, which achieved £74,500, far exceeding its estimate of £8,000-12,000.

Our English Literature, History, Children’s Books and Illustrations auction on 9 December includes a major consignment of antiquarian books and manuscripts from an English country house, significant 20th-century literary manuscripts, some of the finest E.H. Shepard illustrations of Winnie-the-Pooh to be offered for sale in recent years and a magnificent Eric Gill collection assembled by the late Felix Dennis.
