Sotheby’s 13 October 2014 Contemporary Art Doha auction achieved the strong total of $8,006,625, solidly between pre-sale expectations of $6.2-8.5 million, and attained record prices for 13 artists. The top lot of the sale was Anish Kapoor’s 2009 stainless steel work Untitled, which sold after extended bidding for $1,595,000 against an estimate of $700,000-900,000 – the highest price achieved for a work by the artist in the Middle East.
AUCTION DETAILS
Following on from last year’s extremely successful auction in which nine records were broken, including the highest price ever achieved for a work by a living Arab artist, Sotheby’s is excited to hold our annual auction in Doha in the autumn. It will include a selection of high-calibre works from many leading Middle Eastern artists, as well as international contemporary artists. Outstanding examples of photography and painting will be featured in addition to an elegant exhibition of curated highlights, which will be on display in London and New York. The works are truly exceptional and we are delighted to be offering them at auction.
