Our 3 June auction of books brought an impressive $2.9 million. Strong competition led a working manuscript of The Stamp Act from the 1700's which sold for multiple times the high estimate for $755,000. Also performing well was James Chadwick's 1935 Nobel Prize Medal which sold for $329,000 and collection of related materials and 24 autographed letters from Albert Camus to his lover, Patricia Blake, that sold above estimate for $317,000.
Our June Fine Books and Manuscripts including Americana features unique lots including a remarkable cache of 56 manuscript documents signed by George Washington as president and director of the Potomac Company ($250,000-$350,000), James Chadwick’s Nobel Prize medal for his discovery of the neutron, an archive of Camus letters, a nearly complete collection of the Black Sun Press and the only known illustrated Francis Bacon letter.
